Asphalt Cost Calculator
Price asphalt three ways — material only, delivered, or installed — from the same tonnage model. You supply the local numbers; we keep the math and the assumptions transparent.
Asphalt Cost Calculator
Estimate material, delivered, or installed cost. Pick a price basis, enter your local numbers, and see the breakdown — material is priced from the order tonnage, on-site work is entered by you.
Advanced settings — mix density
Defaults to the standard dense-graded hot-mix density of 145 lb/ft³ (≈109 lb per sq yd per inch). Adjust only if you know your mix design.
Enter your local material price ($/short ton) to calculate cost. Ask your asphalt plant for a per-ton quote — prices vary widely by region and mix. For an early US-only check, this quantity falls around $761–$2,474 for material only using the dated planning band below; it is not a local quote.
Typical US price ranges (planning reference): Material only (plant pickup) $40–$130 per short ton · Installed (typical residential) $5–$15 per sq ft
| Basis | Typical range | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Material only (plant pickup) | $40–$130 per short ton | Hot-mix asphalt at the plant before delivery; varies by region, mix design and order size. |
| Installed (typical residential) | $5–$15 per sq ft | Full installed consumer planning range; scope, removal, base prep and local conditions can move a real quote outside it. |
Broad US planning bands checked 2026-08-17. Not a quote — prices vary by region, mix, volume and season. See asphalt cost per ton and data sources.
The three price bases, kept separate
"How much does asphalt cost?" has three honest answers, and mixing them is the most common source of confusion:
- Material only — the plant's price per ton, multiplied by your order tonnage. This is what the hot mix itself costs before it leaves the plant.
- Material + delivery — material plus the trucking charge to get it to your site.
- Installed — material and delivery plus demolition, base preparation, labor and equipment, and tax. Because on-site work varies the most, this is shown as a planning range built from your own figures and a contingency you control — not a false-precision quote.
The calculator never renames material cost as "installed" cost. Each line item is entered and shown separately, so you always know which number you're looking at.
Where the numbers come from
The order tonnage comes from the same compacted-density model as our asphalt calculator — length × width × thickness × density, plus a waste allowance. The dollar figures are yours: enter your plant's per-ton quote and your contractor's on-site costs. Asphalt prices vary widely by region, mix, and oil markets, so a number you enter locally is always more reliable than a national average we could print.
For background on what drives the per-ton price — and why government binder indexes and public-project bid prices are not your local material price — see our guide on asphalt cost per ton.
